Illuminight with Lidl 2019

Wed 23 Oct – Sun 17 Nov. Tickets on-sale now at www.illuminight.co.uk

Illuminight with Lidl is an unaccompanied self-guiding tour through Dean Castle Country Park using a designated route (approx. 1.5km). A fully accessible and inclusive event, featuring state of the art lighting installations, interactive components and specially commissioned visual and music effects, as well as exhilarating fun fair rides.

Ticketed timed sessions are used to manage crowd flow, ensuring all audience members have an enjoyable and safe experience, while spreading the audience across the event site. We do not stipulate an end time and you can spend as long (or as little) as you wish at the event. However, as this is an outdoor event after dark there are safety guidelines that you should adhere to.

  • Please stick to the designated pathways throughout your trail. This is a country park. While the trail uses pathways and wooden boardwalks there are slopes and uneven ground along the route. Do not stray off the designated trail or past any of the barrier or roped off areas
  • This is Scotland, outdoors in Winter. Please wear warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy walking shoes or boots.
  • Please do not touch the lights or installations unless it is in a designated interactive area.
  • If you need help or information while on site, please ask one of our front of house team or event stewards stationed along the route. They are there for your safety and enjoyment. Please listen to them and follow their instructions if they ask you to.

Please read the sections below for further information.

General Event Information
  • What is Illuminight with Lidl?
This autumn, Dean Castle Country Park will be opening after dark with a magical outdoor light event. This is an unaccompanied tour of the grounds following a designated route with installations, hands on activities, illuminations and lighting.
  • Where is Illuminight with Lidl taking place?
The event takes place at Dean Castle Country Park Kilmarnock, KA3 1XB. The Illuminight event starts at the main entrance by the new visitor centre and follows a trail through the Country Park. The trail involves being outdoors for approximately one and a half hours.
  • When does Illuminight with Lidl take place?
Visitors are invited to enjoy Dean Castle Country Park after dark from Wednesday 23 October – Sunday 17 November 2019.
  • How long does the trail take?
The Illuminight experience is a one and a half kilometre trail (approx.) and involves being outdoors for approximately one and a half hours. Feel free to take your time and enjoy the event at your own pace. Make a night of it and enjoy the food and drink village, toasted marshmallow stations and vintage funfair, with lots to enjoy throughout the evening.
Each timed session has a set capacity and we expect sessions to be extremely popular. We recommend you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
  • Where does Illuminight start and finish?
The outdoor event trail starts and finishes by the main entrance off Dean Road by the new visitor centre.
Please leave quietly at the end of the event out of consideration for our neighbours and place all litter in the bins provided.
  • Will Dean Castle be open during the Illuminight with Lidl event?
Please note that the buildings will be in the midst of ongoing renovations and will remain closed throughout the event.
  • Is the event suitable for children and buggy friendly?
Yes absolutely, the event route has been designed for all ages and is perfect for families and buggy access. Illuminight is accessible but please note that some paths can be steep, and care should be taken. Patrons are also advised as the event takes place on a woodland trail that the underfoot conditions will not always be flat and that there may be uneven surfaces. For further reassurance, you may want to bring a small torch to assist you on the route. Our event stewards and marshals are available throughout the trail to assist and advise during the event.
  • Are there any session times which are not attended by children?
There are no specific times that are solely for adults, or solely for families. However, our early evening sessions are most popular with families and our later sessions midweek less so.
  • What should I wear?
Illuminight is an all outdoor, evening event in Scotland. Think practical and wear appropriate clothing and footwear for a Scottish winter! Fingers crossed for good weather but as we know, Scottish weather can change hourly with a mix of crisp winter nights or showers. Layering is best and something waterproof is advisable, as is sturdy footwear. We recommend either wellies or walking boots.
  • What if it is raining?
All visitors are reminded that this is an outdoor event and the weather may be inclement. There are no covered areas during the walk and it is your own responsibility to wear appropriate warm and waterproof outdoor clothing and footwear.
  • Can I bring my dog?
We are big dog fans but unfortunately due to the nature of the event (a large audience, loud soundscapes, bright lights and cables) it is not suitable for them, because of this only assistance dogs will be allowed at the event.
Please be aware that the site can be busy in places, and that there are interactive installations, lights, cables and speakers positioned throughout the route often situated at curious doggy level. Assistance dogs in training are welcome.
  • Am I allowed to bring food and drink into the event?
No food, alcoholic drinks, glass or cans may be brought into the event. Refreshments will be at the event, located at designated areas on the route, providing quality local food and drink. Keeping hands and tummies warm on the journey through the park are seasonal warm beverages, the option to toast marshmallows and both soft and alcoholic drinks.
Alcoholic drinks will not be served to anyone under the age of 18 and a challenge 25 policy will be operating during the event. Any alcohol brought onto site will breach our licensing agreement and will be confiscated.
  • Are there toilets in the Park?
Yes, the Park’s permanent toilet facilities are open throughout the event with several toilet locations clearly signposted throughout the trail.

Illuminight with Lidl is very proud to present the STV Children’s Appeal as our Official Charity Partner for 2019. We will be raising money for the charity throughout the event through various fundraising activities and hope you will help us raise as much as we can for the STV Children’s Appeal, who are committed to helping children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland. 100% of all fundraising generated for the STV Children’s Appeal at Illuminight with Lidl will be donated to the charity.

Please see below for more information on the charity.

ABOUT STV CHILDREN’S APPEAL

The STV Children’s Appeal is committed to helping children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland. The money raised by the STV Children’s Appeal helps make a real difference in the lives of Scotland’s children and young people by providing practical help like food and warm clothes; creating opportunities for training and employability; and enabling social and emotional support for those who need it most.

In eight years the Appeal has raised over £20 million. This has allowed us to make 1102 big and small awards for projects across all 32 local authority areas in Scotland, providing much needed support to over 79,000 children and young people.

The charity was launched in 2011 by The Hunter Foundation and STV.  In 2013, The Wood Foundation pledged its support to the Appeal for projects in the North East.

The charity supports projects within East Ayrshire these charities include:

Beautiful Inside and Out

East Ayrshire Young Carers

Kilmarnock Kinship Carers

The Holiday Project Kilmarnock

The Zone Initiative

Virtual Inclusive Partners

Every single penny raised by the STV Children’s Appeal stays in Scotland and 100% of donations are spent on the children who need it most, as all overheads are met by STV and The Hunter Foundation. In 2019, the Scottish Government once again committed to match fund the first £1m raised.
